hacking...

I've never been a hacker and I don't intend to, I just think it's not for me. After reading some of the recent stories in this class, the whole idea of hackers has become pretty interesting. I came across this pretty interesting documentary on a free video site and watched it. The video really showed the cyberpunks of the 70’s. It didn't really foucs on modern day hackers such as people who steal your passwords and what not, it mostly focused on the first people to rebel agaisnt "the man". They were rebels but in their own way. Most of them were computer geeks who figured out ways around some of the most advanced technology our country had. A hacker just has a different way of thinking. They find very ingenious ways of solving a problem. These “punks” were the ones who ended up making and developing the big computer companies of today.
Then they talk about a movie in the 80’s that I remember my dad showing me. WarGames. It’s about a young teen who ends up hacking into the government nuclear facilities. The teen, played my Matthew Broderick, thinks he is just playing a game, but in reality he is actually controlling missiles from a US silo. Broderick almost starts World War III. The movie glorified using computers to break into very powerful systems.

If you click the google-video button on the bottom right of the video it will open up in another window playing it in a much larger screen:
